Set on Ingmar Bergman’s island home, multi-award winner director Mia Hansen-Løve’s Cannes-selected film stars Tim Roth, Vicky Krieps, Mia Wasikowska and Anders Danielsen Lie.
Renowned director Bergman lived and worked on Fårö for over 40 years. Today it is a place of pilgrimage for his many fans and the setting for Hansen-Løve's (Things to Come) latest – a film within a film within a filmmaker's oeuvre. An American filmmaking couple arrive on the remote island with plans to write and relax. Tony (Roth, Pulp Fiction), a confident and established filmmaker, sets up his desk and starts work. His less-credentialled partner, Chris (Krieps, Phantom Thread), finds it harder to settle. Outside the window, Fårö's wild summer beauty beckons, and the couple – separately and together – head out to explore. Time passes and the lines between fiction and reality cleverly begin to blur, against the backdrop of the island and the Swedish maestro's life and work. - SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL
