'Set in the small town of Nagashima, Kagoshima prefecture in southern Japan. Yuichi Hino farms yellowtail fish, a family business, for his livelihood. He lives with his wife Satsuki, his mother Mie and a 7-year-old son Towa. But Towa is not their own son. He came to live with them when he was one-years old as a foster child, and now Yuichi and Satsuki want to formally adopt him. They meet Yoshida at the child consultation center as they embark on the special adoption procedures with the Family Court, and find out how Towa was taken into care. They are shocked when they learn the name of Towa’s biological mother: Akane Sato, exactly the same as that of the woman who came to the island a few years ago and has since been working at the diner. The tensions between foster parents and biological mother, the presence of residents on the island and the children growing up there are depicted in a human drama.'
鹿児島県長島町―日野優一は父の家業を継ぎぶりの養殖で生計を立てている。妻の五月 、優一の母ミエ、そして7歳になる息子の 豊和との4人暮らし。しかし豊和は実の息子ではなく1歳のときに引き取った里子で、優一と五月は養子として正式に豊和を迎え入れようとしている。いよいよ家庭裁判所で特別養子縁組の手続きに入 ろうとするときに、児童相談所の吉田から、豊和が施設であずかることになった経緯、そして生みの母親の名前を聞き二人は愕然とする。 数年前、島へ移 り住み、町の食堂で働くようになった佐藤茜と同性同名であったからだ。育ての親と生みの親との葛藤 、彼らを取り巻く島の人々 のまなざし、島で育った子どもたちの姿をとらえた ヒューマンドラマ。
